The FB Effect

The purpose of this analysis is to emphasize the effects that Facebook has on users and society as a whole. Exploring earlier forms of similar platforms and applications that came after Facebook is key to understanding the success of the social media giant. This will help shed light on the good that Facebook does for us and the bad that users should be aware of. Though Facebook provides opportunities to connect with friends and family, express ourselves, promote our business, obtain entertainment and information there are multiple things that some of us do not consider when we decided to indulge in the exciting new thing that it was and still is for some. The time wasted, the risk of abuse and cyber bullying, privacy concerns, risk of becoming addicted and antisocial and misinformation are the many problems people take for granted in this age of new media. Expounding on these problems in hopes of creating a greater awareness is the goal of this project.

    Facebook has certainly created a world in which it seems you can connect with almost anyone provided you remember their name. Its quiet astonishing to see how many people are able to use Facebook to their benefit and utilize it as a source for good. Unfortunately Facebook much like many other social media platforms can also be used as a engine of negativity and harm.

Facebook has always been characterized by a strong presence of family and friends and strong focus on memories such as pictures and videos of events. You can chat with your "Friends" or poke them or wave at them. On the whole it seems more fun. Though young people made it famous, it seems the older folks have taken over and made it their own. Privacy

Privacy is a concern of many users of social media. Completing your profiles on many social media sites may requires a boatload of personal information and allows us to share so much but sometimes its easy to take for granted what can be done with this information if it falls into the wrong hands. Companies like Facebook make it a priority to collect user data from our profiles but how much of it do they take and what do they do with it? How much of that data is considered confidential? What are the chances of your profile being hacked? There's so much to be afraid of. And the freedom we have to express ourselves and post what we want creates more opportunities for vengeful exposure of others at the expense of their dignity and pride. Identity theft is not the only concern. The mental health of users are at risk as well. It may also be worth wondering if the laws on privacy and confidentiality are strict enough to keep companies and individuals in check.

The next great step in new media is a virtual social meeting place where everyone can use a virtual headset and meet up in a complex virtual world that emulates the basics of social media capabilities but feels like real life without beimg real at all! The real Sword Art Online but friendly and where we can meet up and be completely different characters that can't bw judged because all that history and bio isn't necessary!
