Social networking gives us the opportunity to stay in contact with family and friends, stay up to date with current events, allows us to network in our professional lives and share our opinions and feelings. For businesses it provides a wide range of possibilities to promote and improve their business. Social networking can be used a means of recruiting, advertising and pubic relations. LinkedIn is a great tool used my many Fortune 500 companies to contact potential employees. The article "Social Networking Technology Boost Job Recruiting" emphasizes the role that LinkedIn plays in revolutionizing the way we search for jobs and the way recruiters single out the best of the best.
The dark side of such a powerful technology would be privacy concerns and the risk of being hacked or having your identity stolen by cyber criminals. The BBB article, "New Wave of Phishing Scams uses Facebook Info for Personalized Spam" highlights one way we could be at risk. Users are being deceived into thinking an email is friendly and click on links that end up downloading malware to their devices. It says, "The scammers are exploiting the fact that you're most likely to click on a link if it was sent by a friend." Simply having access to public Facebook information is enough for scammers to take advantage of those who are too distracted to notice. The time we waste on social networks communicating with others can lock us in a bubble puts us at risk of being antisocial or being shamed or bullied by others. The freedom of expression has its downsides as well. Additionally, we spend an enormous amount of time on Facebook or Instagram instead of being productive in our lives. Sharing memes, uploading pictures and watching vines are taking priority over what's important.
Social Networking Technology will only continue to grow as the big names compete to stay relevant in a fast-paced market where consumers and constantly moving on to the next best thing.  The fight for personal data for more focused ads will continue to be controversial as it relates to users' privacy, and technological advances will give way to use of virtual and augmented reality features to create a greater experience for users.
